Residential

We have over forty years design experience. Our residential projects range from large luxury houses to more modest dwellings. Our projects incorporate many facets of solar and low energy design. Most of our larger houses are located on Sydney’s North Shore or Northern Beaches, and are designed to take advantage of sweeping water views.

Alterations & Additions

Nexus Design has extensive experience in the design of residential alterations and additions. Most of our projects are located on Sydney’s North Shore or Northern Beaches, with some in the Eastern Suburbs. Alterations and additions give us the opportunity to improve the livability, but also allow us to improve the thermal performance of the house, by judicious use of glass, insulation and design.

Commercial

Our portfolio includes a wide range of commercial projects, ranging from office buildings, shops, etc. through to child care centres, medical and aged care centres. Every new project presents a challenge to provide an economical, efficient building, which functions well and is easy on the environment.

Retail

Our retail design experience covers a wide range - from the design of
very large New Car Showrooms and Workshops to the design of the largest Pet Shop in the southern hemisphere. In addition, we have City restaurants and grocery shop fit-outs in our portfolio.

Industrial

At Nexus Design, we excel at the design of Industrial Factories and Warehouses. This type of building presents unique design issues which are not present for other types of building. Truck turning areas, fire egress and so forth all present their own design challenges. We thrive on finding solutions to these challenges, and providing a good looking, economical building which functions well.

Multi-Residential

Our test for multi-residential work is “Could we live here ourselves”.
We use this test for everything from our eight and ten storey apartment design to the more modest two storey townhouse and villa home developments.

Heritage

Heritage design work is a very rewarding experience. Renovation of the original c1840 harbourmaster’s sandstone cottage at Balmain (pictured) is an early example. Later work on a listed house at Cremorne showed that the National Trust understood the need to adapt heritage buildings to allow for present day use. A shopping arcade in Mosman presented a challenge, when the original facade was retained to maintain the ‘period’ streetscape.

Child Care

Child Care Centres are not what they were fifteen years ago. Modern centres are required by the Building Code of Australia (BCA) to be fully accessible. Therefore corridor widths, door openings, amenities etc must be wheelchair accessible and no steps are permitted, making these new facilities very stroller friendly. Outdoor learning and play areas have become sophisticated learning areas incorporating vegetable gardens, bike tracks and covered learning areas. Indoors, computers have found their way into the play rooms - all a far cry from fifteen years ago.
